Amongst the many strands of support our Economy and Skills service has to offer, the Employability and Skills team is set to significantly grow. We are launching a number of opportunities for highly skilled and creative individuals with a passion for skills, who also embrace new challenges.
This is such an exciting time to join the team as we embark on a journey to create a whole host of different work streams, tackling many of the council’s high priority areas.
Building on some existing skills support services, the team will work to develop and deliver a range of programmes, projects and campaigns to meet business and employment needs, one of the key deliverables we feel will allow us to maintain a strong economy with a well skilled population.
The team will offer a number of support services, primarily supporting businesses, gathering economic needs, whilst also supporting in the creation of career opportunities linking to employment, education and skills partners. The team engage widely with a number of external partners and stakeholders who we collaborate with to widen our reach.

About the Role
The role of Business Skills Advisor is externally focused and hugely varied. There is a great mix of responsibilities including creating business skills support plans, supporting funding applications and delivering skills workshops, meaning no two days are the same.
The primary focus of this role is to share knowledge with businesses to support them in overcoming barriers to growth whilst gather intelligence to shape our future work
A large number of businesses we support require impartial advice and guidance on suitable skills solutions to meet their business needs, this requires a well informed and practical approach in the creation of tailored business skill plans, with the option of ongoing support to implement and monitor progress.
Referring businesses to education and employability partners is part of our everyday business conversations, this requires advisors with extensive knowledge of Apprenticeships, traineeships, T-levels and wider funding available.
Supporting the county’s local partnerships is also an important part of the role, organisations such as the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub and FSB whom all contribute and support our Skills agenda. Supporting partner events, campaigns and meetings is a great opportunity to build partnership working but also to connect with the business community.
Key Skills and Experiences
Our ideal candidate would be a highly experienced skills advisor with 2 years or more business skills experience. The candidate must have a broad understanding of local and national skills initiatives, with previous experience of working with businesses to address local skills needs at a strategic level. It is essential to have a good track record of delivering outputs.
