Emergency Duty Team
About Us:
The Emergency Duty Team is a Countywide Out of Hours Social Work Service that operates in the evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays when mainstream Day services are closed.
The Emergency Duty Team consists of experienced skilled qualified Social Workers and managers who are able to quickly assess risk/need for vulnerable individuals of all ages and have a pivotal function in the prevention of vulnerable adults/children suffering harm and provide support to avert or manage an emergency/critical situation, always in the best interests of the child/adult concerned.
The team will work with individuals, families and partner agencies to reduce the risk of harm and where possible provide advice and guidance to prevent an immediate crisis within a family. This will be undertaken via the phone or where necessary and appropriate in person.

The team operates shift patterns and annualised hours to include weekends, evenings/nights and bank holidays. An enhanced financial allowance is payable monthly in addition to a competitive annual salary. Ongoing development, training, guidance, and support is always available.
The Emergency Duty Team (EDT) provides a statutory Social Work service to all service users, carers and agencies that require an emergency response outside of normal working hours.
The role includes dealing with incoming referrals during out of office hours, working with families including vulnerable adults and children in a restorative manner to assess problems/crisis and to intervene appropriately and proportionately. You will be part of a highly experienced, supportive, creative and innovative team.
Please note, there will also a 23% pay enhancement for working out of hours.
As a Level 5, Lead Practitioner:
We are excited to be launching this brand-new role and we are looking to recruit experienced and passionate social workers to undertake the role of Lead Practitioner in our Emergency Duty Team.
Our Lead Practitioners are located within three different parts of the Service and will have slightly different roles depending on which area of the service you are in. This vacancy is for a Lead Practitioner within EDT. Across all areas, our Lead Practitioners will be:
We are keen to receive applications from committed and experienced Social Workers. If you do not meet the essential criteria in relation to Enabling Others and Teaching and Assessing for Professional Practice (TAPP) you will be supported to complete within the first year of appointment.
You will work in the Emergency Duty Team which is the first point of contact all adults, children and families in the evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. This is when mainstream day services are closed. EDT staff are responsible for talking to families and professionals about their concerns, giving advice, support and signposting when appropriate. The role incorporates support to young people in custody (PACE). You will respond to contact from both partner agencies and members of the public. You will work as part of a skilled team member assessing incoming information to identify and respond accordingly for both children and adults. You will need to work in a supportive and restorative way to achieve the best possible outcome for referrers.
