About the Person
We are looking for an experienced and pro-active risk and assurance manager. You will work with a team of committed and high performing colleagues and have responsibility for embedding risk management into everyday practice and ensuring that the organisation and its managers maintain a risk aware approach to their activities, and by leading on the development of a corporate assurance framework for the Council.
You will need to be able to think and operate at a strategic level and be able to link strategy to operational management on the ground. You will work with senior managers and management teams and have the enthusiasm and drive the development and use of processes and tools that managers will choose to use by helping them to understand the benefits.
We would encourage candidates to apply from any sector, you do not have to have previous public sector or local authority experience, however you do need to have experience of working in a large/complex organisation.
You will hold a risk or assurance related professional qualification and have a good understanding of risk and assurance management practices.
About the Role
In this post you could be working with colleagues delivering a diverse range of services, for example fire and rescue, economic development, adult social care, financial management, cyber security, public health, and education to name a few.
You will be supporting senior management teams in considering and managing risk and assurance issues, presenting reports in a variety of forums, and collaborating with other corporate professionals, for example performance management, internal audit, project management, and financial planning.
We have a revised risk management framework, and we are looking to ensure it is embedded and expressed effectively in the organisation. On the corporate assurance side whilst we have many aspects of assurance in place, we are seeking to develop a more co-ordinated corporate assurance framework including the use of typical tools such as the 3 lines of defence model.
There is also the potential to provide professional services to other organisations should the right opportunities arise.
