Emergency Care Fostering
Emergency carers are part of a small dedicated team of experienced foster carers providing support and stability at very short notice, outside of office hours, for children and young people who are not able to stay with friends or relatives.
Emergency care provides the opportunity to care for children and young people in need without having to make a longer term commitment. The role may suit retired people who have more time to support a young person or foster carers looking to retire from full-time fostering placements.
Key responsibilities for an emergency duty foster carers
The role works on a rota basis so you will need to be able to accommodate young people (from babies up to age 18) at immediate notice between the hours of 6pm and midday when on the duty rota. Carers need to have no children aged under 18 living with them. If there are two carers, at least one carer needs to be able to be at home full time to support any placements made on an emergency basis.
The rota works on a two week on, two weeks off basis. This enables carers to make a regular short term commitment to fostering, whilst having time for themselves and their family when not on duty.
