Community Development Worker (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic – BAME*)
Salary - £24,491 - £27,041 per annum
Full time (37 hours) - 18 months fixed term
About Us
The Communities and Partnerships Service supports residents and communities by building capacity and resilience, increasing volunteering and social action, facilitating effective partnerships and partnership working, promoting the principles of self-help, early intervention, prevention and strengths'-based working, and enabling effective community engagement.
We are a countywide service with specific focuses on community development, investing in communities including our management of the Councillors’ Grants Scheme, commissioning of voluntary sector support, advice and equalities services, financial inclusion, voluntary and community sector relationships and coordination of community-led activity across Warwickshire.
About the Role
A new vacancy exists for a Community Development Worker (CDW) to work with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities based across Warwickshire. You will join a network of community development workers across the county who deliver an ‘Asset Based Community Development’ approach.
We believe in building on the strengths of a community, rather than focusing on the deficits. You will work in partnership with residents and agencies from BAME communities across the county to maximise and build on the wealth of assets we know that people and communities possess. Our aim is to facilitate the development of locally ‘grown’ sustainable solutions that meet people’s needs.
In addition you may have to work evenings and weekends to suit the needs of our client groups.
Key Requirements
To be successful in this role you’ll need experience of community development work and an understanding of working for a local authority. You will be trained or have experience in key aspects of Community Development, as well as experience of working with a range of statutory organisations and voluntary and community groups.
It is important you have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and can work effectively in a team as well as using your own initiative. Language diversity is desirable but not essential. In addition, you’ll need to work in a sympathetic and supportive way to gain the trust of a wide range of people to make the difference in a community setting.
For further information please see the Job Description & Person Specification.
*We use the acronym BAME throughout this advert. However, we recognise its limitations as a term that combines and, therefore, dilutes the experiences of Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups.
This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
